Rochester, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that OHL draft pick Mike Bishop has committed to Oakland. Bishop previously played for the Maine Nordiques (18U AAA) and was drafted by the Owen Sound Attack in the Drafted pick 196 in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.

“Being drafted to the OHL in 2018 was an important step in my development.” Bishop stated. “Going through that process exposed me to a high standard early and taught me a lot about preparation and staying consistent.”

“Thrilled to have Mike officially joined the team.” Head coach Nick Mammel stated. “He brings something that we need desperately in a very skilled power forward role.”

Bishop skated with the team this past season, and continuing to stay close to home was important. “Staying close to home was important to me, and after being around the program this past year, I knew this was the right fit.” Bishop said. “I’m excited to be part of building something here.”

“Mike has grown so much in the last year and been great giving everything he has to be ready to dominate on the ice next year. Once again I am so thankful that Mike chose to continue his hockey career at Oakland University.” Mammel added.

The Oakland ACHA DI Hockey staff was helpful to Bishop throughout his recruiting process. “The staff has been great throughout the process.” Bishop stated. “They’ve been honest and supportive, and they made it clear this is a place where I can grow and contribute.”

Bishop will be a factor in all phases on the ice and will be making plays to help his teammates generate offense. “I’m a playmaking power forward who takes pride in being responsible in all three zones. I use my size to protect pucks and create space.” Bishop said.

He will add a net front presence to the Oakland lineup, and be a player the coaches can count on in many different situations. “My vision and passing are strengths. I also feel comfortable around the net tipping pucks.” Bishop stated. “I bring size with skill and composure. I try to slow the game down, make smart plays under pressure, and be reliable in key situations.”

Bishop is currently in general studies at Oakland University while he explores the direction he wants to take academically.
