Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that defenseman Sean O’Connor has transferred to Oakland. O’Connor comes to Oakland from McKendree University (ACHA DII) where he had three assists last season. He played two seasons for the Metro Jets (USPHL Elite) scoring ten goals and 18 assists, before starting his collegiate career.

“Committing to Oakland is an exciting opportunity for me not only to grow as a player, but as a person as well.” O’Connor stated. “I felt that Oakland will help me complete my goals to the highest level and prepare me for the future.”

Oakland head coach Nick Mammel knows that O’Connor will help the much improved Oakland blueline. “Sean is going to bring some stability to our back end” Mammel said. “He’s a steady player with a great stick and IQ for when things develop. We expect him to play a key role in completing against other teams top lines.”

The theme with all recruits at Oakland, has been how welcoming the staff and especially Mammel is. “The coaching staff made a great first impression.” O’ Connor said. “Coach Mammel was very welcoming, honest, and wants to develop both a great player and student. I’m very excited to be a part of Oakland.”

The competition within the 2026-27 roster played a big role in O’Connor coming to Oakland, along with it being the best overall fit for him. “I decided to continue my hockey career at Oakland because I felt it was the best fit for me on and off the ice. The program’s competitive environment and the opportunity to pursue my degree made it an easy decision.” O’Connor stated.

He”ll be a competitive hardworking player on the Oakland defense, giving it all every shift. “You can expect a hardworking, reliable player that competes every shift.” O’Connor stated. “I would describe myself as a two-way defenseman that’s not afraid to get physical and likes to get into the offense but will stay strong defensively when needed.” He added.

O’Connor will be studying Accounting while attending Oakland University.
