Rochester, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that defenseman Milos Matijevic has committed to Oakland. Matijevic comes to Oakland from the Streetsville Derbys (PJCHL) where he recorded three assists last season.
“I’m very excited to be going to school at Oakland, and especially excited to be playing hockey for Oakland.” Matijevic stated.
“Milos has so much poise and plays with tremendous hockey IQ.” Oakland head coach Nick Mammel stated “He held his own against much older competitors last year. Proving to the staff that he was ready for the jump to college. We expect him to continue that growth and development within our program.”
Multiple visits to Oakland University were influential in helping Matijevic make his decision. “Having come to the school to visit multiple times and speaking to alumni, I knew for sure that it would be a perfect home for me for the next four years. And as to playing collegiate hockey, it’s definitely going to be a challenge, but it’s one that I’m eager to tackle!”
Matijevic will bring his full effort every night along with his determination to win. “I see Oakland as a perfect destination for me” Matijevic stated. “I can come and bring my full effort every night and expect the same from the rest of the team. Having watched games and taken a skate with a couple players, the determination to win and develop not only as players but as students is evident and it’s exactly what I’m looking for.”
In describing what we can expect from him on the ice, Matijevic reiterated his effort along with being a shut down defenseman. You can expect 100% effort any time I’m on the ice. I bring a strong transitional and offensive presence to the team, and I pride myself on always being able to shut down the defensive zone in dire moments.
The past year conversations with Mammel were key to sealing the deal on his commitment. “Coach Mammel was very helpful in my decision process. Matijevic said. “He and I discussed the program’s details throughout the past school year, as well as inviting me to a skate with a few players.”
Matijevic will be studying Psychology at Oakland University.
