Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that defenseman Jason Bertrand has committed to Oakland. Bertrand comes to Oakland after spending time with Delta College Prep (USHS-Prep), where he recorded one goal and four assists in 20 games this past season. “I can’t wait to get there.” Bertrand stated. “I went on a visit, and I couldn’t find one thing bad to say about Oakland. There are a lot of great people and great staff there.”
“The school fits me and that’s what I was looking for.” He added.
“He’s coming from Delta Prep, which has done a great job developing players.” Oakland head coach Nick Mammel stated. “David (Dew) and crew have really started to emerge as a great resource for young players to move up in hockey ranks.”
Bertrand will help up the level of competition on the roster. “Jason is a great competitor and outstanding young man, I’m thrilled he’s continuing his career with Oakland.” Mammel added.
The current roster and history of the program was key for Bertrand to make his decision to commit here. “The team is full of great people and great hockey players; the team’s history was really interesting to me and just hearing experiences from the players really made me want to play here.”
We can expect to see a physical presence along the blueline, while playing solid defense. “I’m a puck moving stay at home defenseman.” Bertrand said. “You can expect me to be physical all the time, I’m defensively sound, and good in my own zone, I will give 110% every time I’m on the ice.”
He loved how the Oakland ACHA DI Hockey staff helped him through the recruiting process. “Incredible they’ve been there for me every step of the way.” Bertrand said. “If I had any questions, they would be right there to answer. Overall, really good people and also really good coaches.” He added.
He will be studying Mechanical engineering while attending Oakland University.
