Rochester, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey General Manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that former Western Michigan head coach Alex Hufford has joined the Golden Grizzlies as an assistant coach on head coach Nick Mammel’s staff. Assistant coach Greg Meuser and strength coach Andrew Chatman will return for a second season assisting coach Mammel.

Hufford previously was an assistant coach at Western Michigan before being named head coach in October 2022. In his playing career he was goalie for the Stallions from 2018-2022 and served as a Captain in the 2021-22 season. He played juniors for the Wisconsin Whalers (NA3HL)

I am very excited for the opportunity to join a program that is on it’s way up.” Hufford stated. “I had the opportunity to meet Coach Mammel in Blaine this past year, and believe in the culture and identity he’s building the program on”.

Hufford is excited to help return Oakland to its winning culture. “Having played and coached against teams in this league for the past six seasons, I think I can bring a unique perspective and insight into opponents.” Hufford added “Coach Mammel already has a great foundation in place and I am excited to help him steer Oakland back towards the top.”
