Rochester, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that forward Conner Gibson has committed to Oakland. Gibson comes to Oakland from Woodhaven High (USHS) where he scored 18 goals and 22 assists.

“I am very excited to commit to Oakland.” Gibson said. “The campus is very nice and easy to move around, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to be involved in hockey.”

“Conner came to our recruit skate after talking with the staff and myself and continued to impress us.” Head coach Nick Mammel stated. “He’s a student of the game and excited to be here and learn. He showed good skill and decisions in the skate which we feel will help him adjust at the college level.”

“We are stoked to have Connor commit for the 25-26 season.” Assistant coach Greg Meuser stated. “We had a mission of filling the locker room with leaders and Connor is one of those pieces. Coming to us as the Captain of Woodhaven last year, we will look for his leadership experience on and off the ice to help rally the guys in tough situations, and do whatever it takes to win games. We are happy to help him continue his development as a hockey player, as well as setting him up for success after player college hockey. Having a familiar face on the team (James Olbrich) will help him make that transition from high school hockey to college a little more smooth.”

Gibson heard great things about the program and coaching staff, which influenced his decision to commit. ‘I wish to continue my hockey career with Oakland because I’ve behaved great things about the coaches, players, and staff here, truly blessed with this chance.”

He will be a gritty two way player on the ice. “You can expect a gritty, play making forward.” Gibson said. “I don’t see myself as one who typically scores a lot of goals, but I am very good at making things happen, and never hesitate to play two way hockey.

The recruiting process made Gibson feel welcome and he noticed how the staff wants what is best for the player. “I thought all of the coaches and staff of this team were very welcoming during the recruiting process, they were willing to answer any questions, and help players through their recruiting journey even if Oakland wasn’t the first option.”

Gibson will be studying Music Technology at Oakland.
