Rochester, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood is pleased to announce that goalie Owen Lemieux has committed to Oakland. Lemieux comes to Oakland from the Blenheim Blades in The Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJCHL). He has a career goals against average of 3.59 with a save percentage of 90% including a 17-4-0 record in 2023-24 with a 2.67 goals against average and a save percentage of 92%.

“Honestly, I see a lot of potential in committing to Oakland University.” Lemieux said. “It seems like a place where I could grow academically and personally. I’ve heard good things about the programs there.”

“Owen is a super freak athlete, he averaged about 50 shots a game this year and stood on his head in his playoff games, he stood out to the staff and myself for his ability to get post to post and stay square to the puck.” Head coach Nick Mammel stated. “He also does a great job battling for the next save. He’s got a great resume playing in a high skill league in the GOJHL, as well as a league filled with OHL talent in the PJCHL. We expected him to compete for games right away.”

The decision to play at Oakland was easy for Lemieux, continuing the sport that has always been a part of his life. “Continuing to play hockey at Oakland University was an easy decision for me.” Lemieux stated. “The sport has always been a huge part of my life, and I can’t imagine not being involved in it. I believe it will help me develop my skills while also allowing me to be part of a team that shares my passion!”

In net Lemieux will give his all and he likes to play the puck as well. “You can expect me on the ice to always give my 100% effort with no quit. I like to play the puck as I have pretty good hands and shot for a goalie which also helps as the third D-man on the ice. I like to say I model my game after Carey Price, very calm and collected  demeanor throughout the game and can come up with big clutch saves when it is needed.”

“Coach Nick has been very kind to me and very easy to talk to so far in the short time that I have known him. He seems like someone you can go to if you ever need anything and he is willing to help you with everything that he can do throughout the process!”

Lemieux plans to study Exercise Science at Oakland University.
