Rochester MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood has announced that forward Tyler Shinavier has committed to Oakland. “I’m excited to go to Oakland University, both my brother and sister went, and they liked it, so I can’t wait.” Shinavier stated.

“He’s an effort first guy, he continually gives everything he has to the game, as a bigger body he’s going to be a high motor power forward for us.” Oakland head coach Nick Mammel stated. “I can’t wait for him to get to school and on the ice in black and gold.”

Shinavier comes to Oakland from 18U AA Big Boy (Michigan Metro East Prep League), where he scored 29 goals and 26 assists in 45 games. “I decided to continue playing hockey at Oakland because I’m very passionate about hockey, and all the guys on the team are very welcoming.” Shinavier said. “I thought there’s no better way to continue playing competitively than with OU.”

The game of hockey means a lot to Shinavier, and he will give his all every time he’s on the ice.” You can expect 110% every time I’m on the ice, because hockey means so much to me, I always show up and try hard to continue to improve.”

Shinavier will be an playmaker and help to create havoc on both sides of the ice. “I’m an aggressive forward, I’m always on the puck trying to force turnovers, and setting up plays as a playmaker.”

“The coaching staff was very welcoming and understanding. Shinavier added. “Coach Mammel, from the few interactions with him is a great guy, and that’s all I hear about from the guys on the team so I’m excited to play for him.”

He plans to study Criminal Justice, with the goal of becoming a Police Officer.
