Head Coach

Nick Mammel was named as the 10th head coach in Oakland Hockey History on April 18, 2023. He is currently in his third season as head coach starting with the 2025-26 year. Mammel comes to Oakland after serving as head coach of the El Paso Rhinos (NA3HL) where he went 54-25-1-2. His team won the South Division Championship with the youngest team in the division and third youngest team in the league. Mammel had 12 of his players advance to skate with NAHL programs. Mammel also had five of his players skate with the El Paso NAHL team.

Before taking over in El Paso, Mammel served as the Varsity Hockey Assistant Coach with Midland High School for five seasons.

As a player he played for the Nashville Junior Predators (NA3HL) and Central Michigan (ACHA DII).

Greg Meuser

Assistant Coach

The 2025-26 season marks the third on the coaching staff for Greg Meuser, who was named as an assistant coach on April 25, 2023 on the staff of head coach Nick Mammel. Meuser played at Oakland from 2017-2020. He scored 24 goals and 64 points in 96 games at Oakland.

He served as captain for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons and Oakland went 21-10-2 in his season season. Meuser a native of Winchester, VA played juniors for the Traverse City Hounds (USPHL).

Trevor Zelenock

Assistant Coach

The 2025-26 season marks the first season at Oakland for Trevor Zelenock, who was named as an assistant coach on February 20, 2025 on the staff of head coach Nick Mammel.

Before stepping behind the bench with Oakland, Trevor was an assistant coach in the USPHL and a longtime scout for the NCDC’s Utah Outliers, helping them form a team that would capture the Mountain Division championship in 2022-23. Zelenock became the youngest GM and Head Coach in MIHL history when he took over the Blue Water Stars during the 2023-24 season. His playing career includes four years at Grand Blanc High School, where he set the school record for most games played. Continuing at Oakland University, before moving into a leadership role as their Director of Gameday Operations/Recruitment, where he helped the team reach two ACHA III national tournament appearances.

Trevor continues to skate for the US Coast Guard Hockey team.

Eric Locke

Video and Analytics Coach

The 2025-26 season marks the first season at Oakland for Eric Locke, who was named as the Video and Analytics Coach on June 6, 2025 on the staff of head coach Nick Mammel.

Eric previously spent two years with Waldorf University, serving as an Assistant Coach and later as Associate Head Coach. He joined Head Coach Nick Mammel with the NA3HL’s El Paso Rhinos, where they won the South Division title and earned a national championship tournament bid. Eric later took on an Assistant Coach role with the Willmar Warhawks and also scouted for the NAHL’s St. Cloud Norsemen, bringing a well-rounded perspective on player development and game strategy.

Luc Roberts

Luc has been playing competitively for 16 years, most recently with the University of Michigan-Flint ACHA. For the past five years, Luc has been training goaltenders of all ages and levels, from mites to junior hockey. Luc emphasizes the importance of working on foundational skils whlle also focusing on advancement in new skills. He has helped goalies advance to new levels, including Yzerman, AAA, Varsity High School, USPHL, and the NCDC. His coaching is tailored to each athlete’s development, with a strong focus on technical precision, game awareness, and mental preparation. Now, Luc is excited to bring his coaching to Oakland University, helping goaltenders grow both on and off the ice helping them reach their full potential.

Corey Hagood

General Manager

The 2025-26 season marks the 21st season at Oakland for general manager Corey Hagood, who was named as general manager for Oakland in 2016 after serving several seasons as the programs assistant general manager and Director of Hockey Operations. He is in charge of Hockey Operations, along with scheduling for the Golden Grizzlies, in addition to serving as the Voice of Oakland Hockey. Hagood has called numerous ACHA National Tournament and National Championship games.

He was apart of Oakland’s 2006 ACHA DII National Championship and Oakland’s 2007 ACHA DI National Championship along with the teams 2011 GLCHL Playoff Championship and the 2012 Regular Season Championship.

He also works for the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League running the leagues social media, website along with running the leagues weekly stars “GLCHL Performers”.

Dr. Joel Hessler

Dr. Joel Hessler

Team Chiropractor

Dr. Hessler is is entering his eighth season with the Oakland ACHA DI Hockey program. Dr. Hessler serves as the teams primary trainer and team Chiropractor. He is a managing partner at Clendenan/Hessler Chiropractic in Imlay City, MI. Dr. Hessler specializes in occupational injuries and the management of soft tissue injuries. Leading up to his chiropractic training Dr. Hessler practiced as a medical massage therapist, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. With advanced training in soft tissue mobilization he has over 16 years of experience in clinical muscle work. He is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® through the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™. Currently, Dr. Hessler is one of only two chiropractors in Michigan to complete the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™ sport concussion training and be actively listed as a provider on their concussion registry. Dr. Hessler has utilized this training to implement pre-participation sport concussion baseline testing for young athletes in Lapeer County.

Strength Coach

Andrew Chatman is starting his third year as the strength and conditioning coach on the staff of head coach Nick Mammel. He has his certifications at the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach. Chatman owns the business Unchained Unbroken where he specializes in athletic performance, while still training clients for weight loss, muscle gain, cardiovascular health, and joint health. He operates his Unchained Unbroken out of his hometown Midland, Michigan while also offering online programs and online personal training.

OU Hockey Alum Joseph Guenther begins his sixth season as the official graphics designer for OU Hockey.  Specializing in logo design and website development. His work includes creating custom logos, graphics, and promotional materials that strengthen the team’s branding and online presence.
