Oakland Hockey General Manager Corey Hagood has announced that defenseman Tyler Simon and defenseman Cory Schwartz have been named The Karl Borquist Most Valuable Defensive Player.

The end of the season awards were voted on by the Oakland ACHA DI Hockey players. Simon and Schwartz tied for first place.

Simon scored one goal and 18 assists. He led the blueline in assists and total points (19). Both were also career highs for Simon, who also had six multi-point games. He played a key role in the teams success this past season, playing and helping to shut down the top players on other teams throughout the year. Simon was also a steady and trusted presence on defense.

Schwartz scored one goal and 16 assists in his freshmen season. He was second in assists from a defenseman and second in points from a defenseman with 17. He also had three multi-point games. Schwartz quickly developed into a key player on defense helping the team win games and shutting down opponents.

The previous two winners of the award were Nathan Richards (2018) and Gino Mini (2019)
