Rochester Hills, MI- Oakland ACHA DI Hockey general manager Corey Hagood has announced that goalie Cal Hunter has committed to Oakland. Hunter comes to Oakland from the Anaheim Avalanche (USPHL Premier) where he registered a 90% save percentage.

In 2021 Hunter also played for the El Paso Rhinos (NA3HL) he had 3.23 goals against average and a save percentage of 90%. During the the 2019-20 season with the San Diego Sabers (WSHL) he had a 3.22 goals against average and a save percentage of 90%

“I chose Oakland because it’s a school that continues to grow and improve, which will give me the opportunity to continue my hockey career at a competitive level.” Hunter stated.

“I can get a very good education all while staying close to home.”

Cal says at Oakland, he’s most looking forward to “getting an education and continuing my hockey career, while staying close to home after being moved away for the past four years.”

Hunter is excited to get started on the ice and after several conversation with Oakland head coach Sean Parker, it became clear committing to the team was the best decision for him. “Coach Parker informed me of what he’d be expecting from me and the plans for the season.” Hunter said. “I was already looking into Oakland, and was very interested in attending when he reached out. After a few conversations with him, it was a no brainer.”

Being a bigger goalie, Cal will look to use his size to his advantage between the pipes. “I’m a bigger goalie who takes up a lot of net, so I try to use my size to make the game and saves look simple while being aggressive but in control.”

Hunter added that “I like to get out and play the puck to help our team get a smooth breakout and keep us on the offensive.”

“The goalie that I try to resemble my game after would be Andrei Vasilevskiy.”

Hunter will be studying business while exploring the engineering field as well.
