Rochester Hills, MI- Oakland Hockey general manager Corey Hagood has announced that defenseman Cory Schwartz has committed to Oakland. Schwartz will help to shore up the blueline for head coach Nick Field and assistant coach Aaron Hundt.

Oakland held its early signing day this weekend at the ONYX Ice Arena. The Golden Grizzlies have seven new commits we will be announcing. Coach Field and his staff are also still on the recruiting trail, with a few more spots open on next season’s roster.

Schwartz comes to Oakland from the Metro Jets (USPHL Premier) where he scored nine goals and 10 assists. “I chose to come to OU because of how great of a school it is and what if offers educational wise.” Schwartz stated.

“The chance to also continue my hockey career here was an added bonus, especially with the chance to play with both of my brothers and some old friends.”

Schwartz will fit nicely on the Oakland blueline and he will also bring some offense along with locking it down defensively. “I am an Offensive Defensemen” Schwartz stated.

“(I’m) looking to not only create that fourth forward on scoring chances, but also stop any odd man rushes against us and keep the puck moving out of our zone.”

With his education important to him Schwartz will be studying Information Technology while at Oakland.
